Setting up two-step verification
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. Besides your password, logging in also requires a code generated by an authenticator app. That makes it considerably harder for unauthorised people to get access, even if they know your password.
Step 1: download an authenticator app
Use a trusted app, such as:
- Google Authenticator (App Store / Google Play Store)
- Microsoft Authenticator (App Store / Google Play Store)
- Apple Passwords app (Manual)
These apps are available free of charge.
Step 2: scan the QR code
Log in to your account. The first time you log in you will see a QR code appear.
Open the authenticator app and choose ‘Add account’ or the plus sign. Then scan the QR code with your camera. Prefer to do it manually? You can also enter a setup key.
Step 3: enter the verification code
After scanning, your app shows a 6-digit code. Enter that code on the website to confirm everything works correctly. The code refreshes every 30 seconds. Have you lost your authenticator app or your code? Then see this page.
Tip: no code needed for one month from a trusted location
Your location (IP address) is remembered for one month. If you log in again after that, or from an unknown location, you will be asked for a 2FA code again.
